Three Main Enterprises
Dairy
In September 2024, we took the very difficult decision to disperse our Steanbow Park Farm dairy herd. There were many factors which resulted in the difficult decision to disperse the herd, but ultimately the need to simplify a diverse mixed farming business couldn’t be ignored.
Fear not though, cows are still very much a part of Steanbow! We run a smaller size herd (around 200 cows) alongside UK Agri-Tech Centre at Beardhill Dairy/South West Dairy Development Centre.
The cows are Holstein/Fresian and are fully housed with comfortable and clean beds. Every cow has a bed to lie in and constant easy access to food and water as well as enrichment.
We are extremely proud of the standards of living we provide for the herd and carefully follow all welfare standards supplied by organisations such as Red Tractor or Muller.
Happy cows = lots of delicious milk.
Fun fact: A cow will chew for up to eight hours a day, and can move their jaws about 40,000 times a day.
Poultry
We have three poultry sites of broiler chickens at Steanbow (twelve sheds in total) with a throughput of 3.5 million chickens a year. Our broiler chickens end up on the shelves of supermarkets ready for your Sunday roast or on the grill at well known chain restaurants.
Broiler chickens are fully housed with 24/7 easy access to food, water and enrichment.
There are very high and strict welfare standards that we take seriously and we frequently have audits from external organisations to ensure that these are being met.
Fun fact: There are more chickens on earth than people - that’s 25 billion!
Operations
Self-sufficiency is important at Steanbow, as it is on many farms. We farm crops including grass, maize, lucerne and wheat which in turn is used to feed the cows and chickens. We farm 1500 acres and a fair amount of machinery is needed to keep ontop of the land. The ops team are responsible for servicing and maintaining the machinery and buildings and also offer contracting.
In May 2024, we became a Monitor Farm for AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds - find out more below!Weewd services.
Fun fact: Wheat is the most harvested crop in the world.
